In the Under-18 age group, Sharma, after second round, is being trailed by Roshan Raj (Bangalore Golf Club) who returned a par 70 card for a two-round score of one-over 141.
Sharma has previously proved his mettle at the Toyota IGU Chandigarh Juniors which was also the Indian Qualifier for the eighth Faldo Series Asia Championship.
Yesterday's joint second ranked Viraj Madappa of Tollygunge Club slipped to third position as he carded three over-par 73 at the half-way stage of the tournament.
Manu Gandas of DLF, who led the pack yesterday, had a contrasting round 2 as he carded five-over 75 to be pushed to the joint fourth placing along with Yashas Chandra (Mysore Golf Club) who scored two over 72 in round 2.
Meanwhile, in the Under-14 age group, Piyush Sangwan (DLF) raced to the top of the leaderboard when he carded one-over 71, followed by Tutul Ali (RCGC) who carded three-over 73. Chasing them closely was the third ranked Varun Parikh, who hails from Gulmohar Golf Club and shot a round of four-over 74.
