Sharmila, tied second with three others overnight, was bogey free and had three birdies in first 13 holes, before she dropped her lone bogey of the day on the 14th. She made no more mistakes and finished with a 68.

Young Nalini Singh Siwach (68), who hopes to emulate Sharmila and attempt to get into the Ladies European Tour, also carded a 68 and overtook overnight leader Smriti Mehra (72) to take the second spot.

Sharmila is on the top with an aggregate of 139, while Nalini was second at even par 140. Smriti is lying third at 141.

Neha Tripathi (72) was placed fourth at 143 while Ankita Kedalya (72) was fifth at 147 and Shraddhanjali Singh (74) was sixth at 148.

Sharmila said, "I was happy as I putted a little better than first day. But I need to be more consistent. The win last week was good, but the competition now is quite stiff. We have three to four players each week who are in a position to make a bid for the title on the final day. So no lead is safe."

Sharmila should know because she rallied from a four-shot deficit last week to catch up with Vani Kapoor and then win the play-off.

Vani, after finishing second last week, has had two tough rounds of 76 each and is lying 11th.
