Sharp shooter arrested in Gorakhpur

A sharp shooter carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 and his accomplice have been arrested by the Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh police following an encounter in Gorakhpur.

On a tip off that Surendra Singh alias Guddu Kasai of the Chandan Singh gang will be coming to Gorakhpur, the STF laid a seige and arrested him along with his accomplice last night on the Gorakhpur-Deoria road near Kusambi forest after an encounter, police said.

His accomplice has been identified as Miraj Ahmed.

The DGP (UP) had in April announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest.
 

One carbine 9mm country-made, one .32 bore pistol, one country-made weapon, live cartridges, a motorcycle and four mobile phones were seized from their possession, they said.

During interrogation, Surendra said he had been leading Chandan Singh's gang after the latter was jailed, police said.

14 cases including of loot, murder, extortion of money were lodged against him in Gorakhpur, Mahrajganj and Sant Kabirnagar districts.
