BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha today suggested expanding support base for construction of toilets under Prime Minister model village project.

"Its a grim situation that while nearly 69 per cent of the population have mobile phones and a whopping 68 per cent of households lack toilets at home," Sinha told PTI today.

"I feel the support base should be increased under Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana under which each MP adopts a village in his/her constituency for constructing toilets," the actor-turned politician said.

He had participated in a sanitation programme with Bollywood actress Vidya Balan here yesterday.

Sinha, BJP Lok Sabha member from Patna Saheb, lauded the 'Swachata Mission' launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasised on vigorous awareness campaign against open defecation and building of toilets.

Sinha said he has taken up the task of building toilets at schools, colleges and community place in his constituency from MPLAD.

He has adopted Bidhipur Narauli village in Bakhtiyarpur under PM model village project.

He referred to building toilets at Science college and Patna collegiate and installation of RO plants at three places in the constituency.
