SHE Teams bring crime against women down: Telangana police

: As many as 1,655 FIRs on eve-teasing have been registered under various sections, including that of Nirbhaya Act, since SHE teams were launched in October 2014, police said Friday.

To provide safety and security to women, the SHE teams were formed here on October 24, 2014, and were replicated in all districts of Telangana from April 1, 2015, a press release from the DGP's office said here.

Each team was headed by a sub-inspector and consists of an assistant sub-inspector, a head constable, a woman constable and two or three male constables.

Every team was supervised by a official in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.

 

There has been a reduction in harassment and crime against women and also a kind of deterrence on the part of the people who harass women, the release said.

Till now, a total 1,655 FIRs has been registered, out of which 320 have been registered under Nirbhaya Act and 104 under POCSO Act, it said.

A total of 3,876 petty cases has been registered against the offenders, it said.

As many as 10,644 people have been counselled and monitored, while 4,008 people warned and let off with instructions not to repeat such offences in future, the release said.

More than 7,354 awareness programmes have been conducted by SHE teams at schools, colleges, hostels and other establishments where there was a possibility of harassment of women and 40.12 lakh people were reached out to or benefited from these programmes across the State, it added.
