'She Teams' nab 113 people for eve-teasing, stalking women

As many as 113 people have been caught by 'She Teams' in different parts of the city since October last year as part of an initiative by the Hyderabad Police.

Of the 113 people, mostly students, 57 have been produced before court and among them 10 were convicted for two to three days jail and also fined. As many as 47 people were fined Rs 50 each, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Swati Lakra said here today.

A total of 100 'She Teams' have been formed comprising of sub-inspector, assistant SI, police constable and one woman constable, carrying discreet cameras in civil dress, to check incidents of eve-teasing, stalking and to provide security to women in the city, she said.
 

"As many as 56 persons who were nabbed are minors. They were counselled in the presence of their parents at Child Line Centre by professional counsellors," the senior officer said.

All those nabbed fall in the age bracket of 15 to 68 years, she added.

"Majority of the accused are students studying intermediate and degree. Some of them own petty business, some are menial workers, some are private employees that also included college lecturers," she said.

Hot spots like bus stops, railway stations, colleges, women hostels, shopping malls, parks and cinema theatres were identified where the teams went.

Briefing on operation carried out by 'She teams', Lakra said while patrolling, teams caught the eve teasers, video recorded wherever possible (incidents) and produced offenders before officers for counselling along with their parents and cases are booked depending on the nature of stalking.

She said the initiative, launched on October 24 last year has evoked a good response from women, young girls, NGOs and general public.
