Puducherry Agriculture Minister R Kamalakannan today urged officials to shed their "negative attitude" and serve people in coordination with elected representatives to help implement welfare schemes.

"The first thing perhaps officials acquaint themselves with is how to say 'no' to various proposals," he said adding if this attitude continued it would be difficult to implement government schemes.

He was speaking after inaugurating a one-day seminar on "Sustainable Tourism: A Tool for Development" organised by the Department of Tourism at Bharathidasan Government College for Women here.

Urging students to take up visits to outlying regions of the Union Territory like Mahe and Yanam to know their culture and development in various sectors, the Minister (elected from Tirunallar in Karaikal region) said that tourism "is a nerve centre for Puducherry."

In this regard, he said Puducherry had received around three lakh tourists during the Diwali holidays.
