The defence today cross-examined a prosecution witness who had told the police and the CBI that he had seen prime accused Indrani Mukerjea, Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamwar Rai near the spot where Sheena Bora's burnt body was found.

Witness Sandip Patil, who runs a gym at Khalapur in Raigad, had told them the approximate height, weight and age of Mukerjea, Khanna and Rai.

He had told the CBI and the police that he had seen the three, standing near a stationary car, while riding his motorcycle from Shivali to Pen in April, 2012.

However, when questioned today, Patil could not give the approximate height, weight and age of the tehsildars and two panch witnesses with whom he had travelled in a police van to Arthur Road Jail for an identification parade of the three people he claimed to have seen.

Sheena (24), Indrani's daughter from an earlier relationship, was allegedly killed on April 24, 2012. The crime came to light in 2015 after Indrani's driver Shyam Rai, who was arrested in another case, revealed about it.

The police had arrested Indrani, her former husband Khanna and Rai. Later, Indrani's husband and media baron Peter Mukerjea was also arrested for allegedly being part of the conspiracy.

The CBI, which took over the case from the Mumbai Police, claimed that a financial dispute was the reason behind the killing.
