Addressing a workshop, Dikshit said government has introduced the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model to improve water supply in certain areas of the city, which cannot be termed as privatisation."
She said although private entities are being involved in select areas, all the assets will remain with Delhi Jal Board.
"The payment to the private operator would be independent of consumer tariff," she said adding water tariff in the areas where the pilot project has been introduced will be same as in rest of the city.
The government has decided to involve private sector in water distribution, management and maintenance of DJB's infrastructure in Malviya Nagar, Vasant Vihar and Nangloi areas in PPP mode and they will be paid a "fee" for their services.
Chief Executive Officer of DJB Debashree Mukherjee said that under the project in Nangloi, piped water will be made available to customers round the clock.
"All villages and unauthorized colonies will be provided household connections. Two new underground reservoirs will be constructed in Mundka and Najafgarh and more than 1200 kms of new distribution lines will also be laid," she said.
