Sheila Dikshit undergoes angioplasty

The angioplasty procedure was carried out on 74-year-old Dikshit at the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute where she was admitted last night following uneasiness and throat infection.

Dr Ashok Seth, chairman of Cardiac Sciences in the Hospital performed the angioplasty on Dikshit. Angioplasty is a non-surgical procedure which is performed for widening blocked arteries and improve blood circulation.

"She is fine fine now," a close aide of Dikshit said.

The blockage in the artery was detected first in a CT scan, following which an angiogramme was carried out on her which detected severe blockage in the right coronary artery.

The doctors put a stent for removing the blockage, said the aide adding the Chief Minister cleared a number of files from the hospital bed.

 

She is likely to be released from hospital tomorrow.
