Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today disapproved of Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar's observation that Rahul Gandhi should gain administrative experience before trying to become Prime Minister.

"How do you start your mettle being tested till you get to the point when you start working? Your mettle can be tested only when you got a particular position, which Mr Pawar probably is hinting at. Let us see it then, how can you either condemn a person or give him accolades before he has even started," Dikshit said.

Pawar had said that Rahul should gain administrative experience by becoming a minister before he was made Prime Minister.

"That's his opinion. What Rahul Gandhi has done what he thought he should do. Why should you criticise that?..I don't think anybody has the right to tell anybody do this or do that or you should have done that, you shouldn't have done that," Dikshit told Karan Thapar in CNN-IBN's Devils Advocate programme.

The Chief Minister said the remark about Rahul was not "fair" as he hasn't become the Prime Minister.

Asked whether Rahul was fit to be Prime Minister, Dikshit said it was for Congress party to take a decision on the issue.

"It's a hypothetical situation which everybody is talking about. And I don't think that is fair. Let the party come (back) to power. Congress party does not tom tom itself. When we come to power, then we will choose a Prime Minister whoever it is," he said.
