'Sherlock' co-creator and writer Steven Moffat has revealed he was surprised after winning three Emmy Awards.

The BBC One drama collected the award for Writing For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Dramatic Special for series three finale 'His Last Vow', while stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman won prizes in the Lead Actor and Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie categories, reported Daily Star.

"When we started on Sherlock, we thought it was a simple, private thing - good but not celebrated. We are still reeling from its success, and the joy it has brought so many!

"We came out to LA thinking we would take nothing home but the memory of a great night - to have won seven Emmys in total is something none of us will ever forget," Moffat said.

'Sherlock' also picked up four trophies at the Creative Emmy Awards last week.
