Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna, an ally of the ruling BJP in the Maharashtra government today protested against mismanagement in tur purchase and fall in onion prices.

MP Raju Shetti led the agitation today outside the Maharashtra legislature.

The agitators distributed onions and tur for free to legislators and government officers.

"The government has ensured that prices of onion and tur crash. There are no clear instructions to the government officers at tur procurement centres; hence for any minor things the tur is not purchased for weeks. Such mindless implementation has added misery in the life of farmers," Shetti said.

"I have no doubts in government's capacity to handle the issue but their attitude towards farmers is not friendly," he said.

Shetti has been vocal about crashing onion and tur prices across the state for last some weeks. "I did not see significant change in the approach of the government; hence I decided to protest today," he said.
