Shift Kota Barrage crocodiles to sea: Rajawat

BJP MLA Bhawani Singh Rajawat today demanded that the crocodiles from the Kota Barrage be shifted to sea.

"The crocodiles are entering urban areas. People are living under constant fear. They should be transported from Kota to Mumbai, and released into the sea," Rajawat told reporters in Kota.

The large number of crocodiles at the barrage is creating problems in nearby human habitats, he said. TheKota Barrageis located upstream of Kota city on the Chambal river.

Terming Rajawat's statement as "senseless", wildlife

activists and environmentalists today said they are seeking legal options to move the court against Rajawat's statement.
 

"Crocodile is a protected species," said Tapeshwar Singh Bhati, president of Mukundra Wildlife and Environment Society in Kota.

"The wildlife activists would seek legal consultation for an option to move the court against his statement," Bhati said, adding they are going to write letters to the President and Prime Minister regarding the matter.

"It's a senseless statement," said Brajesh Vijayvergeya, a wildlife activist in Kota.
