Ruling BJP in Goa today said if offshore casinos were to be shifted arbitrarily from the river Mandovi, it would hurt investors' confidence in the state.

"If we move offshore casinos arbitrarily or terminate their operations, it will damage (prospective) investors' confidence in the government," BJP Goa unit chief Vinay Tendulkar said here.

The government had planned to shift the offshore casino vessels from Mandovi but no alternative location was available, he said, adding that some spots were identified but the locals there opposed it.

"You give us an alternative location, we will shift the offshore casinos," Tendulkar said.

Goa has four offshore casino vessels and over a dozen onshore casinos at present.

In line with the popular opposition, BJP had promised in its 2012 election manifesto in Goa that it would shift the offshore casinos away from river Mandovi after coming to power.
