Shipping company manager shot dead

A senior manager of a shipping company was today shot dead by unidentified miscreants after hurling crude bombs at his vehicle at this port town in Odisha, the police said.

Mahendra Swain alias Babuli was proceeding to his office in a jeep when two motorcycle-borne miscreants threw bombs at his vehicle near Ambedkar Bhavan, Inspector In-charge of Paradip Police station, Sudhansu Sekhar Nayak, said.

When Swain tried to flee, the assailants opened fire targeting his head and killing him on the spot, the police said.

IIC Sudhansu Sekhar Nayak of Paradip said when Swain tried to escape after alighting from the vehicle, the attackers opened fire before fleeing from the spot in their bike, he said.
 

Swain was taken to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead, the police said adding, investigation into the incident was on.
