Goa Congress chief Subhash Shirodkar today asked the party high command to relieve him of his post, stating that the debacle in the last Assembly election was the result of "wrong-doings" of local leaders.

"I have been spending sleepless nights thinking what made us to lose the government," Shirodkar told a gathering of state Congress committee members and office-bearers here.

Newly-appointed Goa desk in-charge Digvijay Singh chaired the meeting during his maiden visit to the state after he was given the responsibility of the coastal state.

Recalling that he had tendered his resignation as GPCC chief soon after debacle in polls, Shirodkar said, "It is my humble request that please relieve me of my responsibility."

Analysing the defeat, Shirodkar said state Congress leaders could not assess the impact of their "own wrong-doings".

He conceded that Congress leaders were now facing pangs of loss of power.
