Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today asked the Central team tasked with assessment of crop losses due to the drought and other reasons to submit its report as soon as possible, so that the farmers get financial assistance quickly.
"The state government has sought Rs 4,489 crore (from the Centre). The relief will reach the farmers who are in deep trouble if the Central team submits its report (to the Union Government) soon," Chouhan told the Central study team at a meeting here.
In some districts, scanty rainfall damaged the crops while in some districts, excess rains ruined the crops, he said.
Amitabh Gautam, Joint Secretary, Union Agriculture Ministry, who is heading the Central team, said it visited the districts of Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Shahdol, Anupur, Umaria, Sagar, Panna, Damoh and Katni. "We talked to the farmers and studied the losses," he added.
