The Station House Officer (SHO) of Chhapar police station in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh was suspended for allegedly making a casteist remark against a Dalit MLA of the ruling BJP.

The SHO, Adesh Tyagi, allegedly made the remark during an argument with the MLA's supporters as he impounded their car because they did not have proper documents.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anant Dev Tiwari said the in-charge of Chhapar police station was suspended last night after a complaint was filed against him.

A departmental inquiry, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Rizwan, was initiated against the SHO, Tiwari added.

On Thursday, the SHO of Charthawal police station, Girish Chand Sharma, was also placed under suspension.

Sharma had booked several local BJP and Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) workers after a confrontation broke out between the two sides.

Angry BJP workers, accompanied by MP Sanjeev Balyan, met senior police officials to lodge their protest. Soon after, Sharma was suspended.
