A shooter registered with the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) was today detained at the IGI Airport for allegedly carrying 5,000 blank cartridges and a 9mm blank pistol in his check-in baggage.

Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Dwarka, was passing through the green channel of the airport after arriving from Germany early this morning when he was stopped by the customs officials.

Sources in the know of the development said the shooter tried to wriggle out of the situation by using the NRAI card he was carrying.

"By using the NRAI card, he tried to convince the officials that he is entitled to carrying such ammunitions," a source said.

The weapons and the cartridges have been sent for forensic examination and the shooter will remain in custody till the time the customs officials get the reports.

The shooter was learnt to have purchased the weapons from Walther, a famous gun manufacturing company in Germany.
