Shop Inspector arrested for graft

A Shop Inspector attached to the Maharashtra Labour department was today caught while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a shopkeeper, Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) said.

Pravin Chadhad, posted at Vasai in adjoining Palghar district, had made a demand of Rs 5,000 from the shopkeeper for renewal of licence of his commercial establishment, an ACB release said this evening.

The shopkeeper agreed to pay the bribe money and simultaneously lodged a complaint with the Thane unit of ACB.

Sleuths from the anti-corruption agency laid a trap and arrested the Inspector at the Vasai Municipal Corporation premises while accepting the bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant, the ACB stated.
 

An offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered against Chadhad.
