A grocery shop owner was stabbed to death by two robbers when he tried to stop them from taking Rs 2 lakh from him in Rajasthan's Dholpur district, police said today.

The incident occurred last night when the victim, Rajesh Kumar, was returning home from his shop in Baseri town, police said.

"Two miscreants robbed the money on knife point and stabbed him when he resisted. He was taken to district hospital where he succumbed to injuries late night," SHO Baseri Sughad Singh said.

Locals protested against the incident and demanded arrest of the culprits as well as proper security arrangements, Singh said, adding that senior police officers assured them of proper action.

The SHO said the body has been handed over to his family members after postmortem and a search is on for the accused.
