Shop owners fined for selling helmets at exorbitant rates

: Acting tough against shopowners selling helmets at an exorbinant price following huge demand after Madras High Court made it mandatory to wear them, the Labour department today levied Rs 5000 as fine on 11 of them.

Inspector Myvizhiselvi said they conducted the raids following numerous complaints of helmets being sold at exorbitant rates.

She said the fine amount would be increased to Rs 20,000 in future if practice continued.
