Two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly robbed a shopkeeper of Rs 50,000 and shot him dead in Jagdishpura locality of the city, police said today.

According to police, Deepak Khayani (36) was returning home around 11 PM last night after closing his shop when he was accosted by the two accused, who tried to snatch his cash.

When he resisted, they shot him and fled with his cash and two-wheeler, they said.

Hearing pistol shots, people gathered at the spot and informed Khayani's relatives, who took him to SN Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, they said.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a 55-year-old priest of Semrikatal Mandir in Tajganj was found stabbed to death at his residence yesterday morning.

His face had been battered with a stone to prevent identification, police said.

The matter is being probed, they said.
