A shopkeeper, who tried to catch robbers who were fleeing after looting a trader from a nearby shop, was critically wounded by them in Gulaothi town of the district today.
"Puneet tried to catch three motorcycle-borne looters who were fleeing after looting a sweet merchant Sri Niwas. As soon as he grappled with one of the looters, an accomplice of the robbers shot at him injuring him seriously," police said.
He was admitted to a nearby hospital from where referred to Meerut for treatment, they said.
Meanwhile, agitated traders jammed the Meerut-Badaun highway at Gulaothi and lifted the jam only after the assurance given by police to arrest the culprits within 48 hours.
