A 42-year-old shopkeeper was shot dead by three bike-borne assailants in South Delhi's Mehrauli area tonight, police said.

"Girish Chandra Aggarwal, who had a grocery store in ward number-1 area, had shut his shop at around 9:30 pm and was walking towards his car which was parked at a few metres away from his shop," a police official said.

"As soon as he opened his car's gate, three bike-borne assailants fired at him from their country-made pistol. As Aggarwal collapsed after sustaining a bullet injury on his head, the assailants fled," he said.

A police team rushed him to a hospital after getting call from a passerby, where he was declared brought dead, the official said.

Prima facie police suspects it to be case of enmity as nothing from the deceased was stolen. A case of murder has been registered at Meharuli police station and probe was on, he said.
