Shops, establishments to remain open during festivals in Assam

All shops and establishments in Assam will remain open for 65 days during nine selected festivals this year subject to certain conditions, according to a recent notification by the state government.

The shops and establishments will remain open subject to the condition that the employees would be paid compensation for overtime work and for working on their weekly-off days by employers concerned, it said.

The government has suspended the operation of Section 6, 9, 10 and 11 of the Shops and Establishment Act, 1971 throughout the state during the festivals of Magh Bihu, Me-Dum-Me-Phi, Bohag Bihu, Eid-ul-Fitr, Durga Puja, Eid-uz-Zuha, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja and Christmas.
