Shops penalised for food adulteration

East Singhbhum district administration today penalised 15 shop owners dealing in sweets and other food items for food adulteration.

"The action was taken on the report of Food Testing Laboratory, Ranchi," Deputy Commissioner Dr Amitabh Kaushal said.

Based on the complaints, District Food Inspector had collected samples of sweet and other food items from the accused shop-owners from across the steel city before the last Partialiamentary poll and sent it for analysis in the laboratory, he said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of Food Security and Standard Act and Food Security Rules against them following an investigation.
 

The action was taken after the cases were heard in the court of Deputy Commissioner.

The accused shop owners were slapped fine ranging from Rs 25,000 to 30,000 and collected total Rs 4.15 lakh as penalty.
