Underground drainage system must be in place here as a huge number of pilgrims visited the town each day, a senior leader of a Hindu outfit said here today.

"In view of a huge number of pilgrims visiting here every day, civic infrastructure like drainage must be in place," S Vedantam of Tamil Nadu-Vishva Hindu Parishad, a splinter group of VHP in the State, said.

Opposing fee for darshan in temples, he said it should be withdrawn immediately and added that a robust mechanism must be in place to ensure proper administration of temples.

Similarly, a municipal levy on vehicles entering Rameswaram for pilgrimage must be scrapped, he said.

The Hindu outfit leader also demanded steps by authorities to ensure that the holy pilgrim town should remain spic and span always.
