The Delhi High Court today asked the Public Works Department (PWD) to show a presentation of the expected traffic movement in and around Rao Tula Ram Marg after the proposed three-lane flyover comes up parallel to the one existing there.
A bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Siddharth Mridul asked for the presentation after it was informed by the PWD that the proposed three-lane flyover, which will extend from Munirka to Signals Enclave here, is part of a comprehensive project that also includes construction of a bypass towards the IGI Airport through Vasant Vihar.
During the day's proceedings, the PWD, armed with models and charts of its proposed flyover, said the flyover will help ease the traffic congestion currently faced by commuters travelling to and from the airport as well as Gurgaon along the Rao Tula Ram (RTR) Marg on Outer Ring Road.

It said that once the new flyover comes up, the capacity of the current one will be tripled as it would be made one-way.
It also said that an underpass would be made at RTR Marg simultaneously with the flyover to ensure there would be no hindrance to traffic.
The court will hear the matter on October 13 when the PWD gives a presentation of the expected traffic movement.
The bench was hearing a plea by various associations representing the residents of Vasant Vihar who have opposed the PWD's decision to build a three-lane flyover parallel to the one already there at an estimated cost of Rs 211 crore.
The associations have sought that a six-lane flyover be built in the same location by demolishing the existing one, while the PWD plans to build a three-lane elevated road from Munirka to Signals Enclave, which will also run parallel to the RTR Marg flyover.
The PWD, while admitting to having made a mistake in making only a three-lane flyover at RTR Marg in 2009, said that it had "succumbed to the pressure of some influential people" of the area who were not willing to part with the side-lanes of their colony in order to widen the main Outer Ring Road at that location.
