Light rains today brought some respite from blistering heat wave in parts of northern region as the mercury relented by a few notches in many places.
Scattered rains and thunderstorms in several parts of the national capital brought much needed relief to Delhiites reeling under scorching heat coupled with long power outages for the last one week.
The city received 0.8 mm of rain till 5:30 in the evening, the MeT department said, as people came out of their offices and homes to enjoy the rain.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 41.1 degrees Celsius, down from yesterday's 43.6 degrees Cel. Between June 6 to June 10 the temperature in the city was on a record breaking spree staying above 45 degrees.
Heat wave in most parts of Punjab and Haryana relented as the maximum temperatures dropped by up to two to three degrees at several places.
In Punjab, Ludhiana was the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 42.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Amritsar at 42.2 degrees Celsius and Patiala registered 42.1 deg Cel.
While Hisar in Haryana sizzled at 42.5 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature in Ambala was 42 degrees Celsius, in Bhiwani it settled at 41.6 degrees Celsius and 41.5 degrees Celsius at Narnaul.
The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 41.6 deg Cel.
Rajasthan also witnessed some respite from scorching heat as mercury dipped by one to six degree Celsius at many places in the state.
Temperatures abated due to influx of moisture in south- west region including Kota and Udaipur, a MeT report said, adding, Jhalawar district received the maximum rainfall of 9 cm followed by Ramganjmandi 8 cm and Jhalarapatan 6 cm.
Churu recorded the highest day temperature for today at 43.7 degree Celsius as against yesterday's 45.5, while mercury also dipped in Udaipur division as maximum temperature was 35.6 degree Celsius.
In Jaipur, mercury dipped to 42.7 degree Celsius as against yesterday's 44 degree Cel.
In Uttar Pradesh, however, heat wave prevailed unabated in western and eastern parts of the state, with Banda district recording the highest maximum temperature of 47.6 degree Celsius.
