Vast stretches of northern India, which has struggled under sweltering heat, today had the weather gods to thank for much-needed relief as showers swept the region and brought about a dip in temperatures.
Showers occurred in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, with the weatherman forecasting more rainfall in the coming days.
Although Delhi did not receive any rainfall, an overcast sky greeted residents in the morning as the day temperature tumbled almost nine notches to settle at 32.8 degrees Celsius.
The minimum in the national capital was a shade lower than that yesterday at 29.2 degrees.
Delhiites, who experienced high humidity of between 52 and 73 per cent, may see rain/thundershowers in some areas tomorrow, the MeT office said.
Pre-monsoon activity leading to heavy precipitation brought respite from high temperatures in parts of Rajasthan where Ajmer recorded 50.4 mm rainfall.
People in the Pink City of Jaipur also enjoyed their first pre-monsoon showers, measuring 25.9 mm till afternoon, while Kota received 2.4 mm rainfall.
However, conditions remained unchanged in places like Sriganganagar, which recorded the hottest temperature in the state at 43 degrees, followed by Jaisalmer (41.2 degrees) and Bikaner (40.6).
The MeT office said that showers or squalls may hit parts of north-west Rajasthan in the coming 24 hours.
Meanwhile, four labourers working at a brick kiln in a suburban town near Jaipur were injured in a lightning strike during a squall, police said.
