Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee today termed as "criminal act" the depiction of saint and reformer Sree Narayana Guru in a crucified form during a cultural procession supported by CPI(M), and demanded that the government take appropriate action on the matter.
A resolution passed at the KPPC meeting here demanded that the government take legal action against the guilty, KPPC President V M Sudheeran told reporters.
The resolution also said that explanation given by CPI(M) after public protests was not acceptable. The CPI(M) had said that local leaders had made "an error".

Sudheeran said the coming civic polls were discussed at the meeting and exuded confidence that the party-led UDF would repeat the victory of the recent Assembly bypoll at Aruvikara.
"Commitment to party, chances of winning and people's acceptance will be the main criteria for the selection of candidates for the polls," he said.
Sudheeran also exhorted party cadres to work unitedly and not indulge in "groupism". "No one should call group meetings," he said.
