Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has disposed off over 78 per cent cases out of 7,319 that it had received between 1997, when it was formed, and January this year, an official said today.
"A total number of 7,319 cases had been received by the Commission since its inception till January 2017, of which 5,755 disposed off," a senior officer of department of Law and Justice said here.
In last three years, the SHRC had recommended 72 cases to the department, of which 70 cases have been placed before the Empowered Committee to consider them, he said.

As per the decision of Empowered Committee, 11 recommendations have been accepted, 50 rejected and 9 have been deferred, the officer said, adding two are under SHRC examinations.
The SHRC came into being in Jammu and Kashmir in 1997.
