SI held for death of minor in police encounter with criminals

A sub-inspector has been arrested for the death of an 8-year-old boy caught in a crossfire during a police encounter with criminals in Mohanpur Aduki village here last month, the police said today.

According to DSP Rakesh Kumar, on the information about the presence of some criminals in the village, the police reached there January 17 and an exchange of fire ensued, in which the boy was injured.

The police was taking the child to a hospital, but they changed their mind midway and left him back at the village. The boy later succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital, the officer said.
 

"On the basis of a departmental probe, Sub-Inspector Virendra Singh was arrested," the DSP, who probed the incident, said.

Earlier Singh, Sub-Inspector Saurabh Sharma and two constables were suspended following a spot inspection by IG Raja Srivastava.
