SI injured as speeding bike hits him

In the fourth such incident in the recent past, a Delhi Police sub-inspector deployed at a picket point in Central Delhi's Deshbandhu Gupta road was injured when he was hit by a speeding bike here this morning.

The two bike-borne youths identified as Zishan and Mohd Sohaib have been arrested by the police in this connection.

The incident took place around 4 PM yesterday when the sub-inspector Ram Niwas (49) was checking vehicles at East Park Road with six other policemen.

The two bike-borne youths were seen coming from new Rohtak Road towards East Park Road when they were flagged down by the police, they took a U-turn and tried to flee.
 

"Niwas who was standing on the opposite side of the road decided to stop them. However, finding no way to escape, the driver rammed the bike into the policeman," said a police official.

Niwas's colleagues rushed to his rescue and nabbed the two youths who had fallen on the ground after the vehicle lost balance. The sub-inspector suffered injuries on his leg and was rushed to a nearby hospital, he said.

Police has booked the two youths under charges of obstructing public servant in discharge of duties, voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty, acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention and assault or criminal force to deter public servant among others.
