SI ordered to pay Rs 22k as compensation to boy thrashed in

A Sub-Inspector who allegedly thrashed a teenaged boy after taking him into custody last year, was today ordered to pay Rs 22,000 as compensation.

The State Commission for Minorities found that the boy was taken into custody without any reason and directed the Kochi City Police Commissioner to register a criminal case against Antony Joseph Netto who allegedly beat up the boy in custody when he was SI of Fort Kochi.

Netto was transferred to Marad Police Station following the incident.

State Commission for Minorities Chairman P K Haneefa issued the order while considering a plea filed by the boy"s father A B David, a release here said.

 

In his petition, David alleged that his son was beaten up by the SI while he was riding a bicycle in Fort Kochi area in July last year.

The boy was also thrashed after he was taken into custody, he said in his complaint.

The Commission directed the city police commissioner to register a case against Netto under the Juvenile Justice Act.

It also directed the state Home Secretary to initiate department-level action against the SI.
