Santosh Kumar, was shot at and injured by an unidentified man near Alalpatti railway crossing in Bihar's Darbhanga district, a police official said today.
The assailant fired on Kumar when he was stopped to question his identity as the police officer was patrolling in the area on foot with his colleagues last night, Superintendent of Police (SP) Garima Malik said.
The SI suffered bullet injuries on the left side of his shoulder and was taken to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the attending doctors referred him to the PMCH at Patna, she said.
A case has been registered in this connection.
Kumar and other cops were patrolling the area in view of the Mayoral poll in Darbhanga.
