The SI, Barun Basu, was suspended yesterday for not accepting the complaints from two women, Superintendent of Police Sabyasachi Raman Mishra said today.
A housewife of Krishnaganj Monoharpur and her mother-in-law were allegedly raped by some youths on Sunday who warned them not to go to the police.
When the victims mustered courage to lodge a complaint on Tuesday, the police did not accept it.
The perpetrators who learnt of the victims going to the police set their house on fire and they had to take shelter in a relative's house at Chapra Parsunda.
"We received a complaint of rape and that the house of the victims was set on fire," he said.
The perpetrators were absconding, he said.
