Industry body Southern Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry today welcomed the Tamil Nadu Government order relaxing 90 per cent peak hour 'power control norm' for HT industrial and commercial consumers.

The government's decision has come as a huge relief for the industries as it was under sluggish growth, it said.

"The Southern India Chamber of Commerce welcomes the announcement of Tamil Nadu Government headed by J Jayalalithaa, ordering relaxation of 90 per cent peak hour power control norm for HT industrial and commercial consumers. It comes as a huge relief for industries in the region who were already grappling under sluggish growth and weak demand," SICCI President Jawahar Vadivelu said.

Yesterday, Jayalalithaa ordered relaxation of 90 per cent peak hour power control norm (on quota demand and energy) for High Tension industrial and commercial consumers from June 5 to September 30.

With the expectation of additional power from the second unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power plant and other thermal plants ready to be commissioned in the State, there is no doubt that the industries in this region would grow to be globally competitive, he said in a statement.
