Sick Lankan national succumbs in Madurai hospital

In a tragic end, a 48-year old Sri Lankan businessman, who received delayed medical help after he was mistaken for a drunkard when he suffered supected food posioning near here last week, died at a Madurai hospital today.

P Abdul Hameed of Pottuvil in the eastern province, who used to visit the famous Erwadi Durgha in the district every year in January, developed severe headache and started vomiting after taking mutton biriyani on January 13, police said.

However, local people mistook him to be a drunkard and did not provide him any treatment. They realised late that he had high blood pressure and rushed him to the Government Hospital here. He was shifted to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, where he died without responding to treatment.
