Sidhu gives financial aid of Rs 2 lakh to folk singer

Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today gave Rs 2 lakh as financial aid to famous Dhadhi folk singer Idu Sharif who is paralysed.

An official release said the minister visited the house of the singer who was facing economic hardship and handed over the financial aid.

Sidhu was accompanied by the Chairman of the Punjab Kala Parishad Surjit Patar and Secretary General Lakhwinder Singh Johal, the release said.

Sidhu said famous artists, litterateurs and folk singers of Punjab, who devoted their entire life to folk art instead of going commercial, needed to be given assistance in the twilight of their life through creation of a corpus fund.
