Press Trust of India Amritsar

The decision to excommunicate the preacher was taken at a meeting of the five Sikh head priests, headed by Akal Takht Jatheder Gurbachan Singh, here.

Gurbachan Singh said Dharm Singh was expelled from the Sikh fold for his alleged blasphemous remarks against Guru Granth Sahib in an interview with a TV channel.

He said Dharm's remarks had hurt sentiments of the Sikh community across the globe.

The Jathedar said Dharm Singh did not bother to appear before the five Sikh head priests to clarify his position with regard to the remarks.

Dharm Singh is a Sikh preacher running his own sect in Khanna town in Punjab's Ludhiana district.
