Sikkim CM terms education as priority sector

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today laid stress on the education sector of the state and termed it as a priority sector.

Unfurling the National Flag at the Palzor Stadium here, Chamling elaborated on the initiatives of the government to render quality education in the state through student-centric schemes and programmes.

Stressing on the progress made by the state in the social justice, environment, eco-tourism, agriculture, horticulture, education, health and rural development sectors, Chamling said Sikkim has been able to provide leadership in many of these through its unique development model.

The Chief Minister also highlighted some of the recent policy decisions taken by the state government in the interest of the people making a specific mention of the progress made by the state in the field of sustainable tourism.
 

Speaking on organic farming and its propagation in Sikkim, Chamling made a special mention of the recent endorsements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the state's progress in the sector and urged upon the people to make the state an organic one by 2015.

The Chief Minister took the opportunity to caution the people of Sikkim on the propaganda and misinformation by a section of vested interest groups to distract the efforts of the government.

The Army and Sikkim Police band performances, martial art demonstration by the Sikkim Police and mass drill and cultural programmes by students marked the occasion.
