Sikkim government has enhanced the ex-gratia grant for drivers killed in road accidents from Rs 2 to Rs 3 lakh.
The Department of Transport, Motor Vehicle Division, has notified about the state government policy enhancing ex-gratia grant to the kin of drivers killed in road accidents.
The ex-gratia is meant only for those drivers possessing Certificates of Identification, the notification said.
The kin of the deceased driver will have to submit an application to the State Transport Authority, Motor Vehicles Division of Transport department along with medical certificate, post-mortem report from the concerned authority stating that the deceased driver was not under the influence of drugs or psychotropic substances during the time of the accident.
The application should also be supported by the technical report of vehicle from the office of senior road traffic officer or RTO stating that the accident was not due to negligence or speeding.
The applicant must submit all the documents of the vehicle alongwith the driving license of the deceased driver, copy of FIR, succession certificate, income certificate and recommendation from district collector or superintendent of police or senior road traffic officer.
The state government had announced payment of ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh on 17 August, 2012 to the kin of drivers killed in road accidents.
