Sikkim govt increases daily wages by 10 per cent

Sikkim government has effected ten per cent increase in daily wages for all category of workers in the state.

The daily wage for an unskilled labourer has been hiked from Rs 200 to Rs 220, semi-skilled from Rs 220 to Rs 242, skilled from Rs 250 to Rs 275 and highly-skilled from Rs 290 to Rs 319.

The new wages have come into effect from November 2014, as per a notification issued by the state labour department early last week.

The last hike in wages was undertaken in April 2013.

The notification further said that workers engaged in high altitudes would receive higher wages - between 8,001 ft to 12,000 ft 50 per cent more, between 12,001 ft to 16,000 75 per cent more more and between 16,001 ft and above double the normal wage.
