To simplify the process of obtaining visa, Sikkim Governor Shriniwas Patil today requested the Consul General of Italy in Kolkata to open a visa helpdesk in the north-eastern state.
Official sources said during a meeting in Gangtok, Patil suggested Cesare Bieller to open a helpdesk for fast tracking and facilitating the process of obtaining visa for which a staff to man the helpdesk be deputed on a regular date once or twice a month from the Italian consulate office in Kolkata.
The Consul General on his behalf assured all possible help from his office to facilitate the process of obtaining visa and simplifying it in the interest of Sikkimese applicants.
Highlighting the topographical uniqueness of Sikkim with scope for adventure tourism such as river rafting, rock climbing, trekking, paragliding, etc, the Governor sought the help of the envoy in disseminating the information so that the state could secure more tourists footfall from Italy.
