Eminent personalities, relatives and friends today took part in a "silent" march here demanding justice and an impartial investigation into the mysterious death of 17-year-old Abesh Dasgupta.

The march was held from Abesh's residence at Mudiali in south Kolkata to Hazra Park and back.

Classical singer Ustad Rashid Khan, painter Wasim Kapoor, academician Miratun Nahar and cinestars from Tollygunge participated in the march.

"We want a neutral investigation. We want justice (for Abesh)," Khan said.

Waving posters and placards and sporting badges that read, "We stand united for Abesh," "We want justice for Abesh," the rallyists were led by the teenager's mother Rimjhim Dasgupta, uncle and grandmother.

"This is not a rally... This is a walk for our united stand for the justice for Abesh," his grandmother Krishna Paul said.

Meanwhile, sleuths of Kolkata Police today visited Sunny Park, where the boy was fatally injured, and tried to reconstruct the scene when Abesh lost his life allegedly after being wounded by broken pieces of an alcohol bottle, a senior officer said.

A few of his friends were called for questioning to the Kolkata police headquarters at Lalbazar, he said.

Yesterday, Abesh's mother had met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said she had been assured help to unravel the reason of her son's death.

Kolkata Police had ruled out murder and said Abesh died due to injuries he suffered after falling from a low wall to the lawns of the Sunny Park residential complex on July 23.

His family members, however, refused to accept this and repeated claims that it was a case of murder.
