Tracking a firm trend overseas, silver prices surged by 0.82 per cent to Rs 39,552 per kg in futures trading today as traders built up fresh positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in July rose by Rs 323, or 0.82 per cent, to Rs 39,552 per kg, in a business turnover of 1,422 lots.

Similarly, the white metal for delivery in far-month September was trading higher by Rs 312, or 0.78 per cent, to Rs 40,218 per kg in 30 lots.

Market analysts said fresh positions created by participants in line with a firm trend in global markets, mainly influenced silver prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, silver rose 0.68 per cent to USD 16.40 an ounce in Singapore.
