Silver prices rose 0.23 per cent to Rs 42,357 per kg in futures trade today after traders raised their bets even as the metal weakened overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in far-month May traded higher by Rs 99, or 0.23 per cent, to Rs 42,357 per kg, in a business turnover of 183 lots.

In the international market, silver fell 0.36 per cent to USD 18.20 an ounce in Singapore today.

Market analysts attributed the rise in silver prices at futures trade to widening of bets by participants but a weak trend in the precious metals, restricted the gains.
